Welcome to the first edition of my newsletter. I have been working in the DevOps space for 14 years and have seen a huge shift of technology in that time. It takes a lot of effort to stay up to date with everything tech related, as it is always evolving.
I am going to make staying up-to-date and informed easier, by summarizing the information and curating the content down to what I consider to be the most relevant.
DevOps
To me DevOps is the process of removing obstacles between software development and Operations. It assumes there is a line between them and works to remove that line. Furthermore, it pushes to increase the speed at which code gets built, tested and deployed to production. An advocate and Leader of DevOps Gene Kim explains:
If You want a career in DevOps or an overview of the Landscape, here is a interesting guide:
In the future I will be diving deeper in the specific areas of DevOps, Tools and best practices. Focusing on Security and CICD, we will also talk about Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and the different means of implementing that. Finally, Containers and Kubernetes will be discussed, as well as the new field of DevSecOps.
Cloud
Google Cloud (GCP) is a very robust offering, but it doesn’t have the large following AWS has. I’ve been using it for the last couple of weeks and I love it. Here is an overview of all the services in Google Cloud in 4 words or less.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has a lot of resources, but did you know they are a leader in the education space?
They are promoting a Cloud Degree program, that could be a game changer in the future. They also have a very generous student cloud program.
Azure Has a great learning system too. Check it out here:
ML & MLOps
I have become very interested in AI and Machine Learning from a technology perspective, but particularly excited about AIOps and MLOps, which is the marriage of AL and ML to DevOps. Think this is a nonsense concept? Think again.
